General guidance for preparing and storing lyophilised research peptides. This information is provided for laboratory research use only and does not constitute medical or dosing advice for human or animal use.
Reconstitution
- Work in a clean area and allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening.
- Using a sterile syringe, draw up bacteriostatic water (or sterile water, per your protocol) and slowly inject it down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the lyophilised powder, to avoid disrupting the peptide structure.
- Gently swirl the vial to dissolve the powder. Do not shake vigorously, as this can denature the peptide.
- Once fully dissolved, the solution should appear clear. If it remains cloudy, allow it to sit and swirl gently again before use.
Storage
- Lyophilised (unmixed) peptides should be stored frozen, protected from light, until ready for use.
- Reconstituted peptides should generally be stored refrigerated and used promptly, as stability varies by peptide.
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as this can degrade peptide integrity.
- Always label reconstituted vials with the date of preparation and concentration for traceability.
